About

As a surgeon, physician leader and hospital administrator, Larry has garnered the real-world knowledge needed to transition physicians from clinical to leadership roles, resolve physician-hospital conflict, mentor healthcare professionals to achieve their greatest potential and create workable solutions to the challenges in today’s healthcare delivery systems.

Approach/Philosophy

The world of heath care is the world of patient care. Larry Schecter has known this throughout his careers as a surgeon, hospital administrator, health care consultant and conflict mediator. His humanistic philosophy leads him to be collaborative, inclusive, respectful, and transparent and his personal approach to his work mandates that he be an active listener, a constant learner and to ask probing questions. His experience in the operating room and the board room have taught him that he is best able to help teams and individuals by carefully guiding them through a well-directed process of revelation that brings clarity of purpose and allows each client to tap into their own resourcefulness and leads them to the best solutions

Conflict Resolution

As the challenge of delivering heath care grows exponentially so do the stresses upon those responsible for delivering that care to patients. Larry’s record of successfully mediating conflicts is based on his belief there is no “us” or “them” when it comes to patient care and safety.

Physician/Hospital Relationships

Time-after-time, Larry has successfully developed innovative models that embed physicians into the very fabric of hospital organizational leadership. Where conflict has existed in the past, true partnership can be developed in the future.

Physician Coaching/Leadership Development

Larry’s first-hand experience in the operating room and the board room, his innate compassion, and extensive coach training imbues him with the insight and equanimity necessary to effectively coach and mentor physicians to attain their highest level of personal and professional excellence.

What our clients say

  • "I have watched Larry lead and interact with diverse clinical and administrative colleagues always with a sense of respect, concern, challenge and even a little constructive criticism. He brings out the best in leaders by helping them understand their own motivations as well as their filters. His skills developing physician leaders and executive clinical talent was strategically critical to us as we continually reviewed our efforts to insure patient safety and remain viable in an increasingly competitive and changing healthcare environment. His innovative work in completely restructuring the relationship between physicians, the medical staff and hospital leadership was transformational for our organization, breaking down many of the typical barriers that had previously existed.”

  • “When we began working together, I did not have a clear sense of my career goals or a path to achieve them. Dr. Schecter outlined a process for me to identify my specific goals. This process took several sessions, and he was exceedingly patient yet firm in his recommendations that I do the hard work to clearly identify the goals. By asking thought-provoking questions and giving honest, useful feedback, he was able to help me focus on the issues and develop a structure in which to work . After helping me determine my career goals, Dr. Schecter guided me through the process of identifying the barriers to achieving them. This allowed me to develop a systematic approach to eliminate these barriers and see a path to an achievable result. Dr. Schecter has suggested different approaches to thinking about an issue or problem, and showed me how to use my visceral responses to ideas and situations. He has also helped me feel comfortable acknowledging my strengths and advocating for myself professionally.”

  • “Larry’s coaching has been invaluable in helping me to understand issues in my work place that cause me frustration. I feel he is particularly skilled at coaxing out of me how my negative emotional reactions (anger, frustration, etc) to difficult situations can be related to underlying personal conflict. He then has coached me through coping techniques to better manage the difficult situation. In addition, he has been instrumental in helping me understand how I can best fit into my organization, while still staying true to my core beliefs and ideals.”
